Powder, Progression & A Little Adventure

This women’s ski holiday in Japan is designed for skiers who are ready to explore a little more.

January is typically Niseko’s snowiest month, bringing regular snowfall, deeper powder and more terrain options across Niseko and the surrounding resorts. While skill development remains an important part of the week, the focus shifts towards applying those skills in more varied conditions and exploring everything that makes skiing in Hokkaido so special.

Whether you’re travelling solo or with friends, you’ll join a small group of women who enjoy skiing, learning and sharing the experience together.

Who Is It for?

This week is designed for women who are comfortable skiing blue runs and most red runs in parallel and are looking to continue building their confidence across a wider range of terrain and snow conditions.

Perhaps you’ve developed a solid foundation on groomed runs and are curious about skiing powder, variable snow or venturing a little further from the pistes. Maybe you’d like to feel more confident when conditions aren’t perfectly groomed, or simply enjoy exploring more of the mountain.

The focus is not on extreme terrain or keeping up with the strongest skier in the group. Instead, we’ll continue developing good habits while expanding where and how we ski.

Typical Ability Level

This week is best suited to women who:

• Comfortably ski blue runs and most red runs in parallel
• Can control their speed using turn shape rather than braking
• Are comfortable skiing for a full day on the mountain
• Are interested in developing confidence in powder and variable snow.

You don’t need previous powder skiing experience, but you should be comfortable skiing independently on groomed terrain and willing to challenge yourself in new conditions.

Small group sizes allow plenty of individual feedback, and groups will be matched to ensure everyone is skiing with others of a similar ability level.

What Will We Work On?

The exact focus will vary depending on the group and conditions, but topics may include:

• Balance and stance
• Edging and pressure management
• Turn shape and speed control
• Skiing variable snow conditions
• Introduction to powder skiing
• Terrain choice and mountain tactics
• Building confidence away from groomed runs
• Adapting technique to different snow conditions

Throughout the week we’ll continue building awareness of ski-snow interaction and how our movements influence the outcome of each turn, helping you become a more adaptable and versatile skier.

why january?

January is typically when Niseko is at its best.

While no ski holiday can guarantee snowfall, January has historically offered the deepest and most consistent snow conditions of the season. Last winter alone, Niseko received over four metres of snowfall during January.

Your Ski Instructor and Host

I’ve been wintering in Niseko since 2016. Before discovering a passion for teaching skiing in 2018, I worked in Japanese restaurants and developed a deep appreciation for Japan’s hospitality and food culture.

Women on Edge brings those two worlds together.

My goal is simple: Help you become a better skier while sharing some of the experiences that have kept me coming back to Japan year after year.

Relaxation and Onsen Experience

Niseko’s onsens are world-class, especially in the Annupuri area just 10 minutes from our chalet.
I’ll guide you through Japanese onsen etiquette and introduce you to my favourite local hot springs — a soothing highlight of every Women on Edge week.
